Review: "In compiling the Catalogue I have tried to discover for which painting each sketch was made, giving dates, sometimes within a decade and any other information of interest. It appears that Tunnicliffe was usually systematic in arranging the drawings, so it was possible to assemble the sheets chronologically. Tunnicliffe died quietly in his chair by the fire at Shorelands on the evening of 7th February 1979. In his studio were the preparatory studies, the sketchbooks, the measured drawings, the cartoons and the composition drawings, where a great artist resolved his ideas for the paintings which brought him widespread recognition and acclaim."
